Whether your summer assignment is WSN, IBS, or MPD, you've probably got a book or two that you've been wanting to read. Summer usually provides a good opportunity to read at least one of those books sitting on your nightstand. Or on your Kindle/Nook/iPad.
One of my highlights of 2011 occured last summer, sitting on Hilton Beach in Tel Aviv, reading I Once Was Lost by Everts and Schaupp. (That's a long story - both why I was in Israel and why I was reading a book by two InterVarsity guys.)
I'm hoping to have an equally inspiring time this summer reading Red Letters: Living a Faith That Bleeds by Tom Davis. I won't be on an Israeli beach, but I hope to read most of it on a Colorado mountain. I'll let you know how it turns out.
My wife recently told me that I should step out of my comfort zone and read some fiction. She's right: The last fiction I read was The Shack , which spooked me back into nonfiction. But I think I should be ready to try again.
While reflecting on the limited number of novels I've read in my life, I was reminded of the only book I've ever read more than once. When I was in 6th grade (actually called Grade 6 in Canada), I enjoyed Planet of Death so much that I read it twice. I just downloaded this juvenile Sci Fi classic to my iPad and will attempt to read it for a third time. I have a feeling it won't be quite as good as I remember.
Oh yeah, I'd better mention the Bible so you don't question my spirituality. I've spent some quality time around a few really cool Gospel In Action people lately. They all keep quoting Isaiah , so I figure I should be take the time to study what the prophet has to say. At 66 chapters, it could take me a while.
What about you? What's on your summer reading list? And where will you be doing your reading?
