Happenings on the Mission Field

22 CHILDREN BACK TO SCHOOL

In the last few years, the increased number of terrorist attacks in the Northeast of Nigeria had driven many people away from their homes, sources of livelihood and many school chidren could not go back to school for fear of being attacked. While the pain these people experience can never be erased, it can be eased.

This year, the Agape Humanitarian Aid Foundation (AHAF), a strategy of Great Commission Movement of Nigeria decided to provide humanitarian aid to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in two camps in Abuja Federal Capital Territory. A total of 20 households were identified and supported to secure accommodation. Food items were distributed for many who were displaced and had no where to go with their families. 22 children of primary school age from these two camps were enrolled into the school.

Y.C., a representative of the IDPs said:  ‘’This support has gone a long way in helping our people. Those who were thinking of returning home despite the security situation have had to rethink their position. Also those who could not sleep because of lack of funds for rent are feeling a lot better.” It is such a great privilege to be used by God to minister holistically to these people who have been affected by crises.

ALABAMETA MISSIONS OUTREACH

Alabameta is located in the densely forested region of the southwest of Nigeria. The area is blessed with cocoa and oil palm trees are arrayed along the road nested in the hilly parts of Osun state. Alabameta in Yoruba language simply means three huts or houses. That is now history as those erstwhile three huts have grown to over 90 households. It is a multi-ethnic community with people from other parts of the country as well as others from outside Nigeria.

A team of fourteen people from four campuses in the South-Western parts of Nigeria collaborated to reach Alabameta for Christ on 7th-11th September, 2017. The team was welcomed into this beautiful, agrarian remote village by a heavy downpour of rain. The outreach was an opportunity to expose these students to rural missions for four days. We had the opportunity to minister through early hours of the morning as we did door-to-door evangelism. In the evenings, we showed the ‘Jesus film’ and ‘Walking with Jesus’. In all, about 608 people heard the gospel, 221 prayed to receive Christ, and 120 prayed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The experiences of each member of the outreach team are transformational and memorable. Indeed, God prospered our outreach with boldness, signs and wonders.

ALABAMETA MISSION OUTREACH continue

One of the participants had this to say, “God showed us that success in witnessing is simply sharing Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the result to Him. Truly, our coming to Alabameta was not a mistake, it was where God wanted us to be at that time. Personally, the outreach has addressed some issues in my relationship with God. -Omowole Tomilola.

Before we left for Alabameta village, it was clear God had gone ahead. We knew He orchestrated our time there and the victories recorded. My joy was to see young university students putting their faith into action, touching lives and winning souls from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God.

Praise God for His Faithfulness
